• AUSTRALIA IS GETTING SO HOT, NEW COLORS HAD TO BE ADDED TO THEIR OFFICIAL WEATHER MAP—Temperatures up to129°F / 54°C
◊Two new colors have been added to Australia’s weather maps to show temperatures exceeding 122 degrees Fahrenheit in the country’s fiercest heat wave in more than 80 years.” (Source 1) ~
◊The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced : “2012 was warmest and second most extreme year on record for the contiguous U.S … The average temperature for 2012 was … 3.3°F above the 20th century average, and 1.0°F above 1998, the previous warmest year.” (Source 2) ~
◊Global climate change is the final component of the environmental commons and the one with the greatest potential geopolitical impact. Scientists and policy makers alike have projected catastrophic consequences for mankind and the planet if the world average temperature rises by more than two degrees over the next century. Plant and animal species could grow extinct at a rapid pace, largescale ecosystems could collapse, human migration could increase to untenable levels, and global economic development could be categorically reversed. The United States is the second-largest global emitter of carbon dioxide, after China, with 20% ofthe world’s share. The United States is the number one per capita emitter of carbon dioxide and the global leader in per capita energy demand. Therefore, US leadership is essential in not only getting other countries to cooperate, but also in actually inhibiting climate change.” (Source3) ~

• “WHEN THERE’S A HUGE SOLAR ENERGY SPILL, IT’S JUST CALLED A NICE DAY”
—Germany produced a record high renewable energy. As of today, 25% of the of the Fifth Largest Economy in the world comes from clean renewable sources.
◊ Germany is among the world’s largest and most technologically advanced producers of iron, steel, coal, cement, chemicals, machinery, vehicles, machine tools, electronics, food and beverages, shipbuilding, textiles
◊ According to the country’s energy industry association (BDEW), the largest renewable source is wind energy, accounting for 9.2% of all energy production.
Biomass, or material acquired from living organisms, accounted for 5.7
Solar technology for 5.3 percent.
◊ According to German law, renewable energy shall account for 35 percent of the electricity production by 2020, 50 percent by 2030, 65 percent by 2040 and 80 percent by 2050.
◊ Business Insider noted that in contrast, only 11.8 percent of US energy was from renewables last year. Four percent of US power came from hydro-electric power, 1.5 percent from wind, and only 0.2 percent from solar.
THE GREEN REVOLUTION
The true economy has got to come back into balance with the very biosphere that sustains us. We need cleaner sources of energy, more efficient machines and less polluting production methods that are also less energy intensive,
We want a clean future. There has to be a revolution… but it has to be a revolution of consciousness.

• U.S COMPLETES WARMEST 12 MONTHS ON RECORD IN 117 YEARS
“According to new data released today by NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center (NCDC), May 2011 to April 12 ranked as the warmest 12-month stretch over the U.S. since records began in 1895.”
“The average temperature over the 12 month stretch was nearly three degrees Fahrenheit above last century’s average. In recent months, the United States has seen several notable signs of climate change.”

• TAR SAND OIL
—Considered one of the most toxic forms of energy because of:
› The amount of emissions it kicks up into the atmosphere.
› To get to the Tar Sands, old-growth forest has to be removed (Overburden). They just scrape it off and get rid of it.
› For every barrel of Tar Sand Oil, 10 barrels of earth need to be dug out and 4 barrels of water used to wash it out.
› Toxic chemicals are used to make the Tar Sand Oil liquid enough in order to funnel it through the pipelines.
Because of deforestation, the amounts of water and toxic chemicals used, the emissions it kicks up into the environment (water and air pollution) Tar Sand Oil production is wrong. Only someone who is out of his mind, or financially benefitting from this, would prefer Tar Sand Oil over other forms of cleaner energy.

• Nobel-Winning IPCC Chair Urges Obama to “Listen to Science” on Global Warming
“95% of the deaths that have taken place from these weather- and climate-related events have taken place in the developing countries, so the impacts of climate change are not uniform. Some of the poorest regions in the world are going to be the worst affected. There’s an issue of ethics and equity over there that you can’t ignore. Africa is by far one of the most vulnerable regions in the world. We have estimated that. That’s because the impacts are going to be quite severe. Secondly, the adaptive capacity that you have in Africa is very, very weak, and the institutions that require adaptation measures are just not available. So, you know, this is a very inequitable and, I would say, a very diverse outcome that we are going to see in the future.”

• Each country must demonstrate commitment and take responsibility according to their stage of development and capabilities. Our political leaders need to understand that this is a global crisis and not just a business opportunity or patting on the back

• “We need to look at the fundamental cause of global warming, move away from fossil fuels, leave the the oil in the soil, leave the coal in the hole, leave the tar sands in the land. As long as the world continues to be addicted and hooked on the fossil fuel-driven civilization, there’s not going to be any solution. So we need to shift to renewable energy. We need to shift to community, discrete, small-scale control energy forms, and not on mega grids, mega dams and all other dirty forms of energy production.”
